It starts with a free site survey, then a designed layout: camera positions, HD or 4K resolution, night vision, how long footage is kept and who can view it. Ranger — established in 1986 and licensed by the Singapore Police Force as a security service provider — supplies, installs, tests and maintains CCTV for homes, condos, offices, shops and warehouses, with PDPA-aware signage and secure remote viewing built in.

What’s included
CCTV camera installation in Singapore, end to end
Survey, cameras, recording, remote viewing and maintenance — one accountable team. Choose a stage to see what’s included.
The best camera in the wrong place records nothing useful.
Every CCTV installation starts with a free site survey. We walk your premises with you — entrances, cash points, stock, car parks, back lanes and perimeters — and note lighting, cabling routes, ceiling heights and any MCST, landlord or building-management rules. Then we design the layout view by view, with an itemised proposal.
Commonly used for
- Free on-site security survey
- Camera positions planned view by view
- Identification-quality detail at doors, counters and gates
- Cabling routes and mounting heights checked
- MCST, landlord and fit-out rules noted up front
Detail where it matters — by day and after dark.
We install HD and 4K IP cameras — dome, bullet and turret styles — chosen per view: wide overviews in open areas, higher resolution or varifocal lenses where you need to recognise a face or read a plate. For night, we specify infrared night vision cameras or low-light colour models, in weather-rated housings built for Singapore’s heat, humidity and downpours.
Commonly used for
- HD & 4K IP camera installation
- Night vision camera options — infrared and low-light colour
- Weather-rated outdoor housings and sealed joints
- Varifocal lenses for gates, corridors and car parks
- Privacy masking for views near neighbours
Keep what you need, for as long as you need it — and no longer.
Your network video recorder (NVR) is sized around one question: how many days must you keep footage? We balance resolution, compression and continuous or motion-based recording against storage, set role-based access to playback and export, and configure automatic overwrite at the end of your retention period — the way the PDPA expects.
Ask about storage and retention
Commonly used for
- NVR sized to your chosen retention period
- Continuous or motion-based recording per camera
- Role-based access to playback and export
- Export logs for incidents and investigations
- Automatic overwrite after the agreed period
Check in from your phone — without opening a door to attackers.
See live and recorded video on your phone or PC, across one site or several. We set up remote viewing through the manufacturer’s secure app or an encrypted connection, with separate user accounts, unique passwords and two-factor login where available — never by leaving the recorder open to the internet. Want alerts smarter than basic motion? Add video analytics.
Commonly used for
- Live view and playback on phone and PC
- Separate accounts for owners, managers and staff
- Encrypted access; no open recorder ports
- Two-factor login where the platform supports it
- Multi-site viewing from one app
A camera that quietly stopped recording is worse than none.
Scheduled CCTV maintenance keeps your system honest: lenses and housings cleaned, angles checked, recording and storage health verified, clocks synced for evidence-grade timestamps, firmware updated. When it’s time to upgrade, we reuse sound cabling where possible, move older analogue cameras to IP in stages, and assess systems another installer put in before we service them.
Commonly used for
- Scheduled health checks and lens cleaning
- Recording, storage and time-sync verification
- Firmware updates and password reviews
- Add cameras or upgrade analogue to IP
- Servicing of existing systems after assessment

Buyer’s checklist
Before you buy a CCTV camera: eight things to check
Whoever installs your system, these questions separate a camera that records from one that actually protects you.
Resolution vs storage retention
Higher resolution means bigger files. Decide how many days of footage you must keep first, then balance 4K views against recorder size, compression and motion-based recording.
Ask: How many days will I keep at this resolution?
Night vision and lighting
Many incidents happen after dark. Check infrared range, low-light colour performance and dark spots such as back lanes, car parks and loading bays.
Ask: Can I see a night-time sample from a similar site?
Built for Singapore weather
Heat, humidity and tropical downpours are hard on outdoor kit. Use weather-rated housings and protected cable runs for anything exposed.
Ask: Which cameras are outdoor-rated, and how are joints sealed?
Remote viewing, done securely
Viewing on your phone is convenient — but a recorder left open to the internet is a risk. Prefer encrypted apps, separate user accounts and two-factor login where available.
Ask: Is my recorder exposed through port forwarding?
Change every default password
Default logins are the easiest way in. Every camera, recorder and app account should have a unique, strong password, and ex-staff accounts should be removed promptly.
Ask: Who holds the admin password after handover?
Firmware updates and supported brands
Choose equipment from vendors with a clear security-update record and local support, and agree who applies updates. Some corporate and government-linked clients also specify approved brands — check before you buy.
Ask: How will updates be applied, and by whom?
Access logs and footage exports
Know who viewed or exported footage and when. Role-based access and logs support PDPA obligations and help if footage is ever needed for an investigation.
Ask: Can I see a log of who exported video?
Privacy and signage from day one
Plan camera angles around your own premises, keep private spaces out of view, and put up notices that CCTV is in operation where the PDPA applies.
Ask: Which views might capture neighbours or private areas?

DIY cameras vs professional CCTV installation
Consumer cameras have their place. Here’s where a designed system earns its cost — and where it doesn’t.
| Question | DIY consumer cameras | Ranger-designed system |
|---|---|---|
| Camera placement | Wherever there’s a power point or Wi-Fi signal | Planned from a site survey around entries, cash, stock and exits |
| Detail where it matters | Wide views; faces are often too small to use | Lens and resolution chosen per view — identification at doors and counters |
| Night & outdoor | Many are indoor-rated; weak in low light | Weather-rated housings; infrared or low-light cameras where needed |
| Storage & retention | SD card or cloud plan with limited days | Recorder sized to the retention period you choose |
| Cyber hygiene | Default passwords and updates left to chance | Unique credentials, update plan, role-based access and logs |
| Alerts & integration | Basic motion alerts in a separate app | Can link with access control, alarms and video analytics |
| PDPA & privacy | Up to you to work out | Signage, camera angles and access to recordings built into the design |
| Support | Online chat or return by post | Local installation, training, maintenance and support |
| Upfront cost | Lower | Higher, but scoped to your risk — quoted after a free survey |
Singapore context
CCTV for home, condo, office, shop & warehouse
Every premises type in Singapore comes with its own rules and risks. Here’s what we plan for.
PDPA essentials for organisations
- Put up notices informing people that CCTV is in operation.
- Protect recordings and limit who can view or export them.
- Keep footage only as long as you need it, then overwrite.
- Don’t point cameras into neighbours’ units or private areas.
Based on PDPC guidance, kept general. We’re not a law firm — for your specific obligations, speak to your lawyer.
- CCTV for offices & CBD towers
- Building management usually sets fit-out rules for cabling and working hours, and lobby cameras often belong to the landlord. We confirm which views are yours to cover — typically your entrance, reception, server room and after-hours areas.
- CCTV for condos & MCST estates
- Lobbies, car parks, gates and bin centres are common property, so installations there typically need MCST approval. Residents adding a camera at their own door should keep it on their own doorway and follow the house rules.
- HDB flats & landed homes
- Keep any HDB door camera on your own entrance and check current HDB and Town Council guidelines. For landed homes, gates, driveways and side passages matter most — angle cameras so neighbours’ windows and gardens stay out of frame.
- CCTV for shops, F&B & shophouses
- Entrance, counter and stockroom first; a CCTV notice at the door; and landlord consent before drilling into façades or shared walls. Mall units often have their own contractor rules.
- CCTV for warehouses & industrial sites
- In Jurong, Tuas or around Changi, think perimeter, loading bays and yards: longer-range and night vision cameras, good lighting and outdoor-rated housings for heat, humidity and heavy rain.
Privacy-first by design
What we will — and won’t — install
Security cameras should protect people, not intrude on them. These are our lines.
What we design in
- Aim cameras at your own premises: entrances, counters, stock, car parks and perimeters
- Put up clear notices that CCTV is in operation
- Set role-based access to recordings, with viewing and export logs
- Agree a retention period and overwrite footage after it
- Advise on MCST, landlord or building-management approval before work on common property
- Install only at premises you own, occupy or are authorised to secure
What we won’t install
- Point cameras into neighbours’ units, windows or private spaces
- Install cameras in toilets, changing rooms or rest areas
- Hide cameras to secretly record people where they expect privacy
- Enable audio recording without a clear, justified purpose and notice
- Leave default passwords or open recorder ports on the internet
- Hand footage to third parties without a lawful basis

CCTV works best as one layer of many
A camera records; it doesn’t lock a door, sound a siren or send someone to check. When you need more than footage, these connect to your CCTV.
- Access control & visitor managementDecide who gets in, where and when — with an audit trail.
- Alarm & intrusion detectionSensors and sirens that raise the alarm the moment an area is breached.
- Video analytics & system integrationAI alerts and one platform for cameras, doors and alarms.
- Integrated security & remote monitoringLicensed officers who watch, verify and respond.
Found a camera you didn’t install? That’s a job for our bug sweeping (TSCM) team — carried out with the owner’s or lawful occupant’s consent.

FAQ
CCTV installation questions, answered
How much does CCTV installation cost in Singapore?
It depends on the number of cameras, resolution, lenses, cabling routes and how many days of footage you want to keep. We start with a free site survey, then send an itemised quotation before any work begins — so you only pay for the coverage your premises actually need.
Do I need to put up CCTV signs in Singapore?
If you are an organisation — a business, MCST, school or society — PDPC guidance is to put up notices informing people that CCTV is in operation, and to protect and limit access to the recordings. Individuals recording purely for personal or domestic purposes are generally outside the PDPA, but privacy and neighbourly considerations still apply. We’re not a law firm — for specific obligations, speak to your lawyer.
Can I install CCTV outside my HDB flat or condo unit?
Many residents do fit a camera at their own door. Keep it focused on your own entrance, not a neighbour’s door or window, and check current HDB and Town Council guidelines first. In a condominium, anything on common property — corridors, lobbies, car parks — usually needs MCST approval. We’ll advise on placement at the survey.
How long should CCTV footage be kept?
There is no single number for everyone. Under the PDPA, organisations should keep personal data only as long as it serves a legal or business purpose. Most clients choose a rolling retention period and size the recorder to match; some leases, MCST by-laws or industry rules set their own requirements. We help you pick a period and design storage around it.
Do night vision CCTV cameras work in complete darkness?
Infrared night vision cameras light the scene with infrared that the eye can’t see, so they can record in darkness — usually in black and white. Low-light colour cameras keep colour but need some ambient light. Useful range depends on the camera and the scene, so we check dark spots at the survey and test night views at handover.
Can I view my CCTV on my phone securely?
Yes. We set up remote viewing on phone and PC using the manufacturer’s secure app or an encrypted connection, with unique passwords, separate user accounts and, where available, two-factor login — rather than exposing the recorder directly to the internet. For smarter alerts than basic motion, see video analytics.
Can you upgrade or service an existing CCTV system?
Often, yes. At the survey we check which cameras, cabling and recorders can be reused, whether older analogue cameras should move to IP, and what needs replacing. Upgrading in stages usually costs less than starting over, and we can service systems another installer put in once we have assessed them.
Do you provide CCTV maintenance and monitoring after installation?
Yes. Every installation includes testing, handover and user training, followed by maintenance and support. If you want footage and alerts watched and acted on, pair your cameras with our integrated security and remote monitoring — licensed officers backed by a monitoring team.
